How to Store Homemade Bread....by Jessica
Anyone have any tips on how to store homemade bread? I've been slicing them into sandwich bread, but in the pantry it goes stale almost immediately and not much slower in the refrigerator. This means I've been putting the bread in the toaster for a minute or so before making sandwiches...which is fine, but any step I can eliminate in my morning routine is a good thing.
Tips from any fellow bread bakers?
Excuse me...I'm now going to go pick some fresh herbs from my garden.

I put mine into a plastic ziploc bag when it is still slightly warm and steamy. I don't close the bag all the way to allow for some of the steam to escape then later I close the bag all the way when the steaming stops. This makes the crust soft instead of crunchy.
And then do you slice it as you need it?
Yes. I find it's much easier to slice that way instead of when it's really crunchy.
Happy breadmaking!
Thanks for the tip! I will try that on my next loaf! Except slicing adds another minute to my morning routine so I might try slicing and then putting in the bag...
Eat immediatly after it comes out of the oven. THat will solve all of your problems :)
I also do the plastic bag way. I slice it when it has cooled enough but not completely, then put in ziploc and squeeze as much air out as I can.
The 'plastic is drastic' side of me has been making me wrap my bread in a dishcloth, but apparently a plastic bag may be necessary for this.
My mom ALWAYS used tupperware, like the actual tupperware. they have a special one for bread too! It always keeps everything fresh!
Hope you find something!
