Fried Green Tomatoes...by Jessica

We received green tomatoes in our CSA box last week and I really really hoped that they weren't snatching up all the unripe tomatoes which would result in an under-abundance of juicy red ripe tomatoes in the future. I had to take a peek at their gardens and am reassured that there will be plenty of sweet tomatoes in our (somewhat) near future.

So onward with the green tomatoes.

First I made BLT's and added some of the tomatoes that I'd pan fried in a little olive oil and seasoned with salt and pepper. Anya and I loved it - SURPRISE, Ian didn't (even when I told him they sort of resembled avocados. they do...sort of. well, they're both green. yeah, he didn't believe me either.)

The next morning I made what I'm calling a Southern Englishman's Breakfast. I fried up several slices again in olive oil, then ate alongside an over medium farm fresh egg and a hunk of sharp cheddar. Yummo!

That breakfast sounds amazing! Have you been happy with your csa box? I have been getting one from Valley End farm for the last 2 months but just canceled because I'm not really happy with it.

Becky, I love my csa box! I just picked it up today and I got green beans, potatoes, tomatoes, onions, garlic, carrots, beets, lettuce and squash. I was going to take a pic but I forgot...next week I will!!!

I love them! It's out on Eastside Road, maybe a mile or two past Windsor River Road. It's worth the drive for me!

Here's the cost for the box:

The cost is $22 per week. The cost for the 27-week season (mid May through mid November) comes out to $594, but if you pay for the entire season upfront, you get your first box for free (i.e. $572 total). There is a small additional fee for members who opt to have their boxes delivered to central location in town instead of picking up on the farm. For those who sign up mid-season, we simply adjust the cost to reflect the number of weeks you will be receiving.

Sounds good! Wren and I just went to the fair, and signed up to get some organic fruit sent to our home as well. I'm hoping they turn out being really good as well. Looks like you guys had an amazing crop sent to you though. Grats on the good eats!
