Oh Donna Hay - this Veggie Soup is blah...by Jessica

Every time I cook a recipe in my cookbook I think about Donna Hay and wonder what kind of gal she is. In my head I've conjured up an image of what she looks like. I imagine a more personable and easy-going Ina Garten; someone who would take her dogs on a walk and have a picnic on the ground without worrying if her pants were getting wet or if her tuna sandwiches were wrapped just so in perfectly creased parchment paper; a little more disheveled; a little more fun.

When I cooked my most recent recipe, No -Chop Vegetable Soup, I imagined that this recipe was formed during a rough patch during Donna Hay's life. Basically it's a bunch of vegetables blitzed through the food processor then heated up with tomato puree and vegetable stock. Maybe her husband had won all the kitchen knives in a recent messy divorce settlement and she only had the food processor nearby. Maybe she'd gained a little weight and needed to go on a low fat soup diet to shed some weight quickly.

Tonight I decided to see what she looks like and if the concoction in my brain is close and THIS is what Donna Hay looks like.

Hi Jessica, it's Marcella. The funny thing is she actually does sort of remind me of good 'ol Ina! It might be the perfectly silky, salon-fresh hair or perhaps it's that look in her eye that just says "I live in the Hamptons where I bask in my luxury barn all day while my husband slaves away to finance my constant dinner parties....don't you?" For her own sake, I hope that she is much more personable and easygoing than Ina. This was a great post! I always love finding out what people actually look like when I already have my mind made up about them! Sometimes I feel weird googling them but it's good to know I'm not alone! :-)

Oh Marcella I'm so glad to hear there are other weird people in the world like me who like to google people to see if what they look like is what our crazy little heads have conjured up! Good to see you at the clothing swap... :-)
