Red Lentil, Carrot & Cumin Soup....by Jessica

Sadly these coral colored red lentils cook out to a yellow. We were all kinda hoping to eat the red lentils. Anyhow, it was a great soup made better by the addition of some yummy Italian sausage from my meat club box. We're not quite sure who this sausage is coming from but it is quite addictive and Zack's getting quite possessive about them.

On a side note not related to much we just got back from Ian's open house. His writing journal is providing us with much laughter and insight. Here's a few tidbits:

Hello, my name is Ian. My hair is blond. My eyes are hazel like jade. My nose is medium. My height is kind of short. My skin color is olive. I consider myself smart, funny and kind. I'm glad I'm not dead.

Dad's Portrait - My Dad's height is like a yellow giraffe eating leaves from a tree. His feet are skyscrapers. His fingers are sticks stuck in a big ball. His nose is as long as a limo. His heart holds happiness that is as red as lava bursting out of a large volcano.

I hate my dislikes. I hate my dislikes like war. War is one of my dislikes. Teasing and bullying are very bad. As you can see my dislikes stink like a skunk.

There really is some funny and deep stuff in there. I love how he changed his "My mom is as mean as a hunting dog" to "My mom is very good at spotting, like a hunting dog." Yes, I've always been known for my spotting...spotting stuff at the thrift store; spotting something tasty to eat; spotting a good place to take a nap!

I love Ians journal entries! You need to make a book out of them with pictures of the subjects to reference.
