My First Couponing...by Juli

Many of you have expressed your desire to learn how to coupon on your recent lists. Although this is not on my list, I too would like to learn the trade of a coupon queen. I turned to my dearest friend Jodi {a wife and mother of 2 muchkins} for advice. She had texted me the other day letting me know of her best couponing day ever {68% savings!} and it inspired me to wait no longer and get the savings on! She recommended buying two SF Chronicles on Sunday, and boy was she right, there were loads of coupons! I snipped and snipped away totally overwhelmed and confused as to who-what-when-where I was going to use these. She referred me to a great website {krazycouponlady.com} and also {coupons.com} to ease the confusion.

Jodi's coupon book

With all those tools on hand and getting a personal lesson from Jodi I set off to CVS to do some non-extreme couponing. I promised the Hubster I wouldn't come home with anything I didn't need {i.e. baby diapers} and that i would only get things we would actually eat/use. Since I literally work right next door to CVS I did a preview trip taking pictures of my possible purchases with all prices/discounts. That helped a ton!

Here's what I came home with:

So I got all of the above for $17.76 {tax included} - that is taking account all of the sale prices and coupons and using the extra bucks that these sales produced. {the power toothbrushes came out to .99ea !!!}  and I had $2 extra bucks leftover! WooHoo!
I had to make a chart....soon I will perfect it.

I will admit it was a lot of brain power and I was a little nervous at the register, but it was totally worth it! The hubster saw the glimmer in my eye and now realizes that this could become an obsession. BUT I really want to only get things we will for sure use and NOT become a hoarder! Next is a lesson from my niece Malia.....

That's awesome. I have always wanted to know how to go about something like this, since out of the two of us, I am the one that can make $50 get us a months worth of food. If I can do this with couponing it would be awesome. Nice work thus far. Look forward to seeing more.

Good for you!! Most times I take the time to clip coupons that I think I will use, I usually forget to pull them out at the register. I will have to check out those sites, it would be nice to save the family more money.

ok this confuses me! Does she take that whole binder shopping with her? I never seem to find cuopons for things that I even like...So where is the extra 2$'s from? did you start with 20$....haha I'm so bad when it comes to counting anything...I would fail!

Ok, jodi mostly plans her shopping trip at home and pulls out the coupons out and has them in a seperate envelope that will be ready for the register. BUT she did say she brings the binder with her in case she sees a deal she has a coupon for. Also (to answer Seths question) i didnt start my trip with a set amount of cash but at CVS if you by certain items you get CVS bucks that are basically cash you can spend only at CVS. Confusing, i know. Next time you get a sunday paper check out the CVS ad and then that might help explain.

Ok so I do take the binder with me. At first I was a little embarrassed carring it in the store but after saving money at the register I just decided to get over it. I am a little OCD when it comes to projects too. The only hard thing is when u have two kids to juggle in the whole thing!!!!!
