Speed Read...by Juli

#13 Read a Book

Gasp! I actually read an entire book, front to back in 3 days. No, it wasn't see See Spot Run or Bernstein Bears. I read Nicholas Sparks The Lucky One. The inspiration really came down to the fact that I knew the movie was coming out the next weekend and once I see a movie there is a very high unlikelihood for me to rehash the story in a written form. The price was right {Walmart $5} and the conditions were perfect. It was a lazy weekend with the sun blazing. I pumped through that book and was happy to cross #13 off my list. I was so proud of my accomplishment that at the spure of the moment my bestie, Jodi, and I decided to drive 300 miles down south to see the movie with our other bestie, Ashlee.  If I get inspiration like this too often we might have to by a hybrid or something. Anyways, it was both good and bad to see the movie right after reading the book. The good thing was that I was all pumped up to see it. The bad thing was that the movie didn't develop the characters like the book did and left out parts that would have made the movie better.

Either way I was happy to cross one more thing off my list and share the memory with childhood friends, both near and far.

As if it wasn't amazing enough that I read one book I actually just finished another book handed down from my madre:

A memoir of a young Japanese girl in the internment camps during WWII
It was a really good read, but it made me wish I had talked to my grandma more about her experience in the camps, although I know she probably wouldn't share too much. In high school I interviewed her for a report and made an awesome display and got an A+, sadly the teacher liked it so much she decided to keep it...so therefore what precious memories I was able to squeeze from my grandma was lost to some dusty teachers closet. Still regretting that.

My next read was also a hand me down from a study of mine. I am enjoying the fact that the book is written from the dogs perspective.

I'll let you know how it is!

I was going to write something snarky about that dog's perspective book....but then I remembered I read a book, that Edgar Sawtelle one, that was from a dog's perspective and I enjoyed it so I can't really make fun.

I am so happy that you have discovered the joy of reading. Characters in books have time to develop so you get to know them and care about what happens to them. Unlike the movies. Congratulations

Oh Jess didn't you hear? I have started a biography for Lola. Don't worry she talks about you and how you took care of her and gave her lots of baths when she was a baby :)

Going to put 'Farewell to Manzanar' on my list. In Netherlands we had some of the friends in the different halls who had been in the nazi concentration camp, they never spoke about that period in their lives, same for one of my uncles. I saw Snow Falling on Cedar Hills, I knew about that part of US history but not much.
Keep us posted about the last title...

Well make sure she tells you why she always backed up and walked all over her poop as a puppy. I'd like that one explained.

She said she loved to see your disgusted face and hear you screaming when you discovered poop all over your kitchen floor :)
