Pickles...by Jessica

I saw Juli today and she said "I think I'm going to make pickles tomorrow" and I said "Whoa, I made pickles yesterday".

I went out in my garden and I picked everything that was ready to be picked (this also includes one sweet pepper that was hiding under the beans and a couple more tomatoes that were popped in a little girls mouth before photo).

I then prepped all the veggies.

And toasted the spices.

{which by the way, I went to Shelton's where you can buy spices by the ounce and I spent $8 on enough whole yellow mustard seeds, brown mustard seeds, dill seed, celery seeds, fennel seeds, dill (different than dill seed) and red pepper flakes to make about 5 or 6 large batches of pickles!}

I then blanched the green beans and carrot sticks.

And made the pickling juice.

Voila! Pickles!

Thanks! They are pretty tasty but I think I may have added too much sugar, kind of on the bread and butter than dill side.

Isn't making pickles a cheap thrill? One of my favorite summer activities. I'm making pickled beans with the TWO POUNDS of beans I picked from my plants yesterday. It was so good to see you this week, BTW!

Cadi, it is so fun! I used the recipe you posted last year for zucchini refrigerator pickles with a few adjustments in the vinegar/sugar ratio. Turned out so yummy!!!!

Yes, it was good to see you wed too. Hopefully see you next friday if they want me back, sheesh I can't believe I totally forgot to show her how to email it before stamping complete. Such a scatterbrain sometimes!!!!!!
