For the love of Books...by Jessica

The little girl has recently started reading chapter books and I love seeing her curled up on the couch or on the heater with her nose in the book. She got her feathers all ruffled the other day when I moved her book and "lost her spot". I just love it.

Ian got bit by the reading bug a few years back so we are now a full fledged book lover family. It's pretty much a necessity to be a reader around here because my auto response to "mo-om what can I do?" is "clean the bathroom" or "go read a book".

Here's what we are reading these days.

Anya:
Judy Moody - she says the movie is better!...but of course she would say that, she loves TV! and Princess Stories - she's still into Princess stuff, but kind of moving out of it I think. She is also super into anything with puppies or horses.

Ian:
Tin Tin - he rapidly read through every bit of Tin Tin stuff we could get at the library and excitement was HIGH when the movie came out. Hardy Boys is his go-to book because he got a ton from his uncle and hasn't read them all yet. Choose Your Own Adventure books are a fun read for him and it was a good flashback read for myself. He still feels quite fondly for the Captain Underpants and Diary of a Wimpy Kid series.

Zack:
He loves this Musashi book. I tried reading it and couldn't get into it, but I'll give it another go when he's through reading it again. And much like his love for watching educational documentary stuff on TV, Zack always gets "have to use your mind" books like this Puzzler book. I don't know what it's about but it sounds complicated.

Me:
I'm not quite yet into The Many Lives & Secret Sorrows of Josephine B., but it may be because I've taken it slow and the voodoo stuff has me nervous that I may have to abandon it and so I'm not letting myself get attached yet. I'll keep you all posted. I'm working through the Anne of Green Gables series and am on #6 Anne of Ingleside. To be honest, I don't love these books, she is just too flowery and fluffy for me... but it's a good book to have in the bathroom because I get bored even in the 30 seconds it takes for me to pee so I just read a sentence here and there. (Sorry that was TMI wasn't it?)

I'm going to be getting Hunger Games sent to me soon, so I'm eagerly anticipating reading that because there have been so many rave reviews. I feel like it's been ages that I've been sucked into a book, so send me some recommendations of your favorite's!

Hopefully Josephine gets better. D & A are avid readers like you and absolutely loved it. I'm almost done with Midwives and enjoying it. Waiting for my next delivery of books from you! But I still have to say, Snow Flower & The Secret Fan, Shadow of the Wind and Gone With the Wind (ironic) are still my all time favorites.

Loved the shadow of the wind, great gothic novel! Hunger games is really good, keeps your interest since it is pretty fast paced. Water for elephants was really goodand I enjoyed the help

Loved Water For Elephants and The Help as well! Hated the Water for Elephants movie though, but loved The Help movie. I typically can't read a book and then enjoy the movie, but think The Help may be an exception because we listened to it so maybe I wasn't quite as attached as I could have been if I'd read it.
