A Disappointing Experiment....by Jessica

Zack and I were downtown with our friends Matt & Jamie and we walked past a cute little tented area with a fancy little event going on.  Zack said he thought the event was put on by The Bear (a brewery) and Matt and I said "no way, it was too fancy for The Bear."  Long story short, we were wrong and we were chastised with a punishment of going vegan for a week.

Flash forward through the week of veganism (we survived) to today, my fourth day of no vegan eating.  Friday, Saturday and Sunday I ate like normal.  I didn't feel very good (had a cold) so I didn't eat anything too exciting, but I did have some non vegan items including some cheese, a little butter, some chicken.

And my stomach HURT so bad.  Like knives piercing through my belly.  I was pretty sure it was because I had a cold.  I mean, what other reason could there be, right?  (ha ha) So I ignored the knives in the stomach until today...experiment day.

Today was no dairy.

And no knives in the stomach.

You know what this means, right?

Yes, I've got to build my tolerance back up.  This is exactly what I did not want to have happen.  I always told Zack to keep enough animal protein in his diet so that his body wouldn't totally freak out if he had to eat some.

He thinks my reasoning is ridiculous; his exact words were "like a smoker who stopped smoking except occasionally and wanted to build up their tolerance because it made their lungs hurt to just smoke occasionally."

I don't even know what to say or how to wrap this up.  I'm hoping this is just some strange strange cold virus that reacts when combined with dairy.

That has to be it, right?

Sorry Jess, I doubt it's your cold...I have been there...I KNOW it's dairy for me:( once you stop eating it and go back it's majorly painful!! like you said knives...now go watch fork over knives and trick yourself into thinking you want to be vegan...haha

That is crazy that your tummy hurt so much. Hopefully you can push thru so you can eat junky again :)

I'm sure it's my cold. There is no other reasonable explanation!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear that and I sympathize with you. However I think seeing the doctor is in order here.

Better to be safe then sorry...just saying...

I say just be balanced. If you develop some disease then go hardcore, ridiculous vegan to kick it's butt! Til then have some cheese, drink some wine, melt butter on your popcorn -live...just a little :-)

M - I think you're right. I ate a little smidgin of bleu cheese today just to boost up the tolerance a bit. Alakai - your advice is well received :) (but please remember and I think all other readers know that I'm an exaggerator for the sake of a good story. The knives were small, not big daggers but more like butter knives) :)

I just heard a very local story (you know this person) of someone who had a tape worm 5 feet long...sharp stomach pains....but youre right its probably just the dairy :)

Five FOOT tapeworm?????????? I figure if it's a tapeworm I'd be skinny. But I've got to hear more details on that for sure.

Eeeeeewwwwww... I'm worried about the tapeworm now. That's probably what's wrong with me! (Not a hypochondriac here!) But, I agree with stomach pains from dairy, I have a bad time :/ Hopefully it's just your cold and you will feel better soon :)
